One of the objectives of INTENT is to build capacity of researchers across the country in the generation and dissemination of high quality scientific evidence. The purpose of the capacity building programme is to create a pool of competent, well trained and experienced investigators essential for expanding leadership in clinical research, especially clinical trials, and instilling an environment of scientific temper and culture of innovation and change. The objective of these trainings will be to equip and support researchers and investigators for enhancing their capabilities for conducting clinical trials in compliance with international and national standards for research practice. The capacity building programme will be guided by a framework that aims to address sustainability and scalability through ensuring that training is not limited to only imparting knowledge and skills within the training duration but follow-up activities extending beyond traditional teaching to include continued interaction with the trainees. The programme will be implemented as structured, multi-stepped capacity building programme through a series of intensive one-week training workshops (complemented with periodic refresher trainings), and combined with protocol development and implementation (of successful protocols), one-to-one mentorship over a 2-year period and training of trainers.
