Dr. Anoop Velayudhan

Dr. Anoop Velayudhan is a scientist E (Medical) at ICMR in the Clinical Studies, Trials & Projection Unit,Epidemiology and Communicable disease division, and works also in the domain of one health, biosafety and rare diseases. His core expertise is in outbreak investigations of infectious diseases and has years of field experience in setting up surveillance systems in many states in India. He was earlier the lead for surveillance at Centers for Disease Control (CDC) India and headed the Epidemiology and Surveillance team for Incident management system (IMS) at the US Embassy, New Delhi for COVID response 2020-2021.Dr. Velayudhan has consulted for the WHO SEARO in various roles andfor WHO Nepal. He is currently a mentor for EIS program at the National Centers for Disease Control and also for the Advanced Epidemiology Program at WHO India.

Dr. Velayudhan earned his medical degree (MBBS) from the Government Medical College Cochin. He received his Masters in Public Health (MPH) from the SreeChitraTirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology. Before joining the CDC India, Dr. Velayudhan was an Assistant Program Officer cum Epidemiologist in Kerala under the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Program and later an Epidemic Intelligence service (EIS) Officer at State Surveillance Office Chennai. He is an Asian collaborative Network for Chronic Non communicable diseases (ASCEND) scholar and is a Fogarthy fellow 2012-13 for the same. He trained asinternational project Officer from CDC Atlanta, is formally trained by IMA International in monitoring and evaluation for developmental projects, and is a blackbeltin six sigma.
